Contra Costa County, CA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Contra Costa County has no centralized no-knock or do-not-knock registry. The standard enforcement mechanism is a conspicuously posted 'No Soliciting' or 'No Trespassing' sign on the property. Under CCC Ordinance Code Chapter 54-6, commercial solicitors must honor such signs and may not knock, ring doorbells, or otherwise initiate contact. Violators can be charged with infractions or, if they persist after being asked to leave, with trespass under California Penal Code Section 602.1 (misdemeanor: up to 6 months jail and $1,000 fine). Federally, consumers can register landline and mobile phone numbers with the National Do Not Call Registry (donotcall.gov) to reduce telemarketing, but this is separate from in-person solicitation. Political, religious, and charitable canvassers cannot be excluded by local ordinance from approaching homes without such signs, per First Amendment case law.
