Brentwood does not maintain a municipal No Knock registry, but residents can rely on No Soliciting signs and the state Do Not Call Registry. California's Home Solicitation Sales Act gives consumers a three-day right to cancel most door-to-door contracts. Federal laws separately protect against deceptive practices.
Brentwood does not operate a formal No Knock registry administered by the city. Residents wishing to avoid solicitors can post a "No Soliciting" or "No Trespassing" sign at the primary entrance of their home, which, under Brentwood Municipal Code Chapter 5.28 and Watchtower v. Stratton, must be respected by both commercial solicitors and, to a lesser extent, non-commercial canvassers. For phone and text solicitation, California enforces the federal Do Not Call Registry (1-888-382-1222) and the California Robocall Law (AB 1305, adding Business & Professions Code 17592). For consumer protection after a solicitation does result in a sale, California Civil Code section 1689.6 (the Home Solicitation Sales Act) gives consumers the right to cancel most contracts over 25 dollars signed at their home within three business days, requires the written contract to contain a prominent Notice of Cancellation, and bars the seller from taking immediate payment. Violations allow contract rescission plus attorney fees. The federal FTC Cooling-Off Rule offers parallel protection. Residents who are contacted after posting a No Soliciting sign or who believe they were defrauded can file complaints with the Brentwood Police, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Consumer Fraud unit, and the California Attorney General's Office. Homeowners' associations sometimes maintain their own opt-out lists for community-gate solicitors, which the HOA or guard service enforces at the gate.
