Troy, MI Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 22 of Chapter 74 directs the City Clerk to establish and maintain a Do-Not-Knock Registry. Any lawful occupant of a residence, house, apartment, or dwelling may add their address by submitting a written, signed request naming the occupant, the address, the date, and a statement that solicitors and peddlers must not knock, ring the doorbell, or otherwise physically call at the dwelling; the Clerk may also issue an optional removable window cling to registered addresses. Section 19 makes it a violation for any solicitor or peddler to go onto a private residence posted with a "No Solicitation" sign, a Do-Not-Knock window cling, or an address then listed on the Registry.

Registrations last five years and must be renewed or the Clerk removes the address; a resident can also request early removal in writing. The Clerk must give a current copy of the Registry to every peddler license or solicitation permit holder and keep a copy open for public inspection during regular business hours, though a failure to add or remove an address from the Registry creates no claim against the City. from April 1 through September 30; in commercial districts it is confined to the visited business's normal hours, defaulting to the same clock if the business is closed.
