Lauderhill, FL Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Lauderhill's solicitor and peddler permit scheme, enacted by Ord. No. 99O-8-138 in 1999, runs from Section 14-94 through Section 14-103 of Article VI. Section 14-94 makes it unlawful to solicit for any commercial or charitable purpose within the city without first obtaining a permit, bars anyone under 18 from obtaining one or soliciting at all, makes permits nontransferable, and provides that a permit automatically expires 90 days after issuance unless a shorter term is stated. Section 14-95 requires a sworn written application listing the applicant's name, current and five-year address history, a description of the goods or services offered, a recent 2-inch-by-2-inch photograph, fingerprints, proof of public liability and property damage insurance, a signed hold-harmless agreement, and authorization for a criminal background check, accompanied by a nonrefundable $250 investigation fee.

Section 14-96 routes the application to the chief of police for a character and business-responsibility investigation, which the city must complete within 45 days. Section 14-97 requires an approved solicitor to prominently display, on outer clothing, a $20 permit identification card showing a photograph, permit class and dates; failure to display it is punishable under Section 14-103. Section 14-98 lets the code board revoke a permit after written notice and a hearing for fraud, any violation of the chapter, a conviction involving moral turpitude, or conducting business as a breach of the peace, with an appeal to the city commission available under Section 14-101 within 14 days.

Section 14-99 confines solicitation to the hours between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Section 14-100 bars operating within 1,000 feet of a school or public park. A violation of the article is punishable under Section 14-103 by the penalty schedule in Section 7½-3.
