Long Branch, NJ Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Code § 256-1 makes it unlawful for any vendor to sell, display or offer goods, wares, merchandise, services or commodities anywhere in Long Branch without a City license, and § 256-2 defines "vendor" broadly enough to sweep in canvassers, solicitors, transient merchants, itinerant merchants, peddlers and hawkers, whether they sell on foot, by wagon or by vehicle, house to house or street to street. An applicant files a sworn written application with the Supervisor of Mercantile Licenses giving their name and address, a description of the business, any vehicle used, three recent photographs, prior license denials or revocations, and details of any criminal convictions; the Police Department reports back on a background check within 14 days, and the Supervisor must approve or deny within 30 days, with a denial appealable to the City Council within 10 days.

The annual fee is $100 per vendor plus $25 per additional employee, and a $100,000 public liability insurance policy naming the City as an additional insured is required before any license issues, along with a non-transferable photo ID badge. A. 45:24-9, public utility employees, noncommercial petition canvassers, and anyone working a city-sponsored event. Licenses expire every December 31 and must be renewed annually.
