Terrebonne Parish, LA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Under Sec. 19-77, any person or organization that wants to stage a parade using floats must apply to the chief of police and/or sheriff's department at least 30 days before the scheduled date, or, for a carnival-season parade, at least 30 days before the first Mardi Gras parade of that season. The application must state the organizer's name and contact information, the responsible head and registered agent if the parade is run by an organization, the date, the designated route, the approximate number of people, animals and vehicles involved, the type of animals and vehicles, the starting and ending hour, the assembly time, and the spacing to be kept between units.

Each carnival float organization must carry liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage, and must give the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and the sheriff's office a certificate naming them as additional insured one week before the parade date. Organizations must indemnify the parish and the sheriff's office against claims arising from the parade except where the parish itself is solely negligent, and must submit a parade lineup at least 10 days ahead showing the position of every float, band, vehicle and other unit.

Sec. 19-76 caps the size of any permitted parade at a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 45 floats, limits truck parades to 25 trucks running only on Mardi Gras Day, and bars any parade from being political or commercial in nature, though sponsor decals up to 4 by 8 feet are allowed on floats. An individual who violates the permit division is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both.
