Bergenfield, NJ Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Borough Code § 223-3, amended July 18, 2017 by Ordinance No. 17-2511, requires prior approval of the Mayor and Council for any nonrecreational use of the Borough's parks and playgrounds not otherwise covered by Chapter 223. If the requested date falls before the next scheduled governing-body meeting, the Borough Administrator may approve or deny the request directly, but must notify the governing body of the request before deciding. Section 223-5, most recently amended April 15, 2025 by Ordinance No. 25-2646, sets the fee schedule for reserving Memorial Park's pavilion and picnic area.

50-per-person charge for groups of 200 or more; nonresident fees run higher, starting at $45 for the smallest group. Each tier also carries a bathroom-cleanup charge and a refundable security deposit at the same dollar amounts. Applicants must submit a park reservation request form, a hold-harmless agreement and a certificate of insurance naming the Borough as additional insured to the Borough Clerk's office at least 30 days before the event, with paperwork due the Thursday before a Mayor and Council meeting (held the first and third Tuesday of each month).

Fees are waived for Borough organizations, Borough-sponsored activities and nonprofit organizations, and cancellation refunds are issued net of the nonrefundable application fee. Section 223-4 separately bars any special permit for alcohol consumption in a park or playground, overriding the general special-permit provision in § 87-11.
