435 requires a sidewalk dining/decorative display permit for any tables, chairs, benches, displays or other appurtenances placed in the public right-of-way to establish a sidewalk dining area or decorative display, issued by the zoning administrator upon a finding the section's requirements are met. 74. 20. Physical standards are specific: a four-foot unobstructed pedestrian clearance from any furniture or display, a two-foot clearance from the face of curb, an eight-foot clear zone perpendicular from any doorway, a 50-square-foot cap on decorative displays, and daily removal of furniture and displays after business hours (planters and approved enclosures may stay).

m. Alcohol service is allowed only in conjunction with a restaurant as defined in the section, requires an enclosure between one and three feet high, posted signage against removing drinks, and a current Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control license; losing that ABC license automatically terminates the city permit. If a sidewalk dining or decorative display area sits unused for 10 continuous days, the permittee must wash or buff the sidewalk surface to the satisfaction of the superintendent of streets. The section was last amended by Ordinance 2179 § 2 in 2018.
