Michigan Deer and Elk Feeding Bans Statewide

Under the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (MCL 324.40111a et seq.) and DNR Wildlife Conservation Order, baiting and feeding of free-ranging deer and elk is banned in the entire Lower Peninsula and CWD surveillance areas of the Upper Peninsula. The ban responds to bovine tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease detections. Limited supplemental feeding is allowed in parts of the UP under DNR rules. Bird feeders are not covered if not accessible to deer. Violations are misdemeanors enforced by DNR conservation officers, and the rules apply universally across affected areas.
