Pool enclosures in Atlanta must be at least 48 inches high, with self-closing and self-latching gates opening away from the pool. Gaps may not exceed 4 inches and vertical gaps less than 1.75 inches.
Under the ISPSC adopted statewide, residential pool barriers must meet specific anti-climb and gap rules. The barrier must be at least 48 inches above finished grade on the outside. Openings in a fence cannot exceed 4 inches, and horizontal members spaced less than 45 inches apart must have vertical gaps under 1.75 inches. Gates must swing outward from the pool, be self-closing and self-latching, with the latch release at least 54 inches above grade. Doors from the home directly into the pool enclosure must be alarmed. Above-ground pools with 48-inch walls can use the pool wall itself as the barrier when ladders are secured.
The pool cannot be filled or used until barriers pass inspection. Fines and liability risk apply if barriers are removed later.
