Per Alabama Building Code and Huntsville ordinance, residential pools must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high measured from the outside. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latch at least 54 inches above ground or on the pool side of the gate. Vertical barrier openings cannot exceed 4 inches; horizontal openings cannot exceed 1.75 inches. Chain link fence openings limited to 1.75 inches. House walls serving as barrier require alarmed doors to pool area.
