Section 124.34(A) layers Weston-specific requirements on top of the state pool safety statute. It first incorporates Florida Statutes section 515.29 by reference for all swimming pools in the city, then adds two local conditions. Under 124.34(A)(1), when the pool barrier is a perimeter yard-area fence, that fence must reach at least 60 inches, five feet, above grade, taller than the standard four-foot barrier baseline many pool codes use. Under 124.34(A)(2), where the barrier is a perimeter fence, the property must also provide one of the additional swimming pool safety feature options listed in Florida Statutes section 515.27, such as an approved pool alarm or self-closing, self-latching gate hardware, layered on top of the fence itself rather than substituted for it.

The section further requires that the pool barrier, including a perimeter fence, sit entirely on the property where the pool is located; it may not tie into or share a barrier or fence with an abutting property, which forecloses shared side-yard fencing as a pool barrier between neighbors. These barrier rules interact with the city's setback rules for pools in 124.34(B): a single-family pool's side or rear yard setback may be reduced to five feet from the outer edge of the pool deck (for a fenced pool) or the exterior of the screen enclosure (for a screen-enclosed pool), provided no easement is encroached, while a non-single-family pool must keep a 25-foot setback where it abuts single-family residential development.
