Alpharetta, GA Swimming Pools & Spas: Pool Permits (2026)

Section 8-29(a)(2)a adopts 'the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, GA COMP. R. & REGS. 110-11-1-.30,' as amended and supplemented from time to time by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, as one of the state minimum standard codes governing construction in the city. Alongside that adopted code, Section 8-29(a)(4)c separately incorporates 'the Alpharetta Swimming Pool Permitting Procedures' as one of 'the following permitting and inspection policies and procedures of the city,' listed together with the city's own Commercial and Residential Building Inspection Policies and Procedures.

Together these two adoptions mean a homeowner installing a residential pool must secure a building permit through the city's own pool-permitting procedure while the pool's construction itself is held to the state-adopted swimming pool and spa code edition. Section 8-3 assigns permit issuance to the building official and enforcement of Chapter 8, pools included, to the building official and fire marshal, with fees paid to the city clerk. Under Section 8-5, if the adopted swimming pool code is ever less stringent than the current state minimum edition, the state's edition controls, and a copy of the adopted code and of the city's own permitting procedures is kept on file in the city clerk's office and the building official's office for public review before a homeowner applies.
