Alpharetta, GA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

The Unified Development Code sets the minimum paved driveway for a 'For-Sale' dwelling unit at 18 feet long by 10 feet wide, measured from the garage to the back of the sidewalk, or to the back of the curb where no sidewalk exists, under UDC § 2.5.4. Ordinary passenger cars and non-commercial pickups may park on that paved driveway or an adjoining paved parking space, but the combined paved width serving vehicle parking cannot exceed 40 feet. Separately, UDC § 2.5.9(A)(3) bars parking any vehicle on an unpaved surface in a commercial district, in a residential front yard, or in a side or rear yard that fronts a street, unless the limited gravel exception in § 2.5.5(F) applies.

That exception lets pre-2001 residential gravel parking areas remain if they hold no more than two vehicles and are contained on three sides by landscape timbers. Required parking must also meet applicable front, side and rear yard setback rules and lot-coverage limits under § 2.5.4(A). The City posts no-parking signage only where it chooses; the absence of a sign never excuses noncompliance with § 2.5.9. Enforcement runs through the Director of Community Development and Community Development/Code Enforcement staff, who may issue a written notice ordering correction before citing a property owner into municipal court.
