Alpharetta, GA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 46-35 makes it unlawful for any person to park a vehicle on any street where the pavement carries a painted yellow or no-parking line, or where signs have been erected restricting parking, or to otherwise fail to comply with the marking or sign that limits parking at that location. This is the general on-street compliance rule that applies across the city's marked no-parking zones, painted curbs and posted restricted zones created under § 46-34. Section 46-36(a) gives both non-sworn parking enforcement officers, designated by the director of public safety, and sworn police officers authority to enforce this article and to issue written citations requiring the accused to appear and answer the charge.

Section 46-36(b) leaves the fine amount to be determined by the city council from time to time rather than fixing it in the code itself. Beyond a citation, § 46-36(c) authorizes towing a vehicle to the nearest garage or other place of safety at the owner's expense in three circumstances: when it has sat unattended in a restricted zone for 24 hours or more, when it blocks a street use the city council has authorized for something other than normal traffic flow after 24 hours' notice by sign, or when it poses a threat to public safety or the safe passage of traffic on a public street.
