Oak Lawn, IL Swimming Pools & Spas: Pool Permits (2026)

Under Oak Lawn Village Code § 6-12-1, an above-ground pool doesn't need the building-department construction permit that a permanent inground pool does, but it still needs two separate approvals: an electrical permit from the village's electrical inspection department (fee set under title 6, chapter 2, article A) and a swimming pool inspection permit from the same department, which carries no fee. Section 6-12-3 layers on a physical-safety rule: any temporary, portable or above-ground pool must be enclosed by a self-latching fence at least four feet high, unless the pool itself is under 24 inches tall, in which case no fence is required at all.
