Under California Health and Safety Code 115922 (Swimming Pool Safety Act), pools built or remodeled after January 1, 2018 must include at least 2 of the following 7 safety features: enclosure meeting HSC 115923, removable mesh pool fencing meeting ASTM F2286, approved safety pool cover meeting ASTM F1346, exit alarms on doors leading to pool, self-closing self-latching devices on pool-facing doors, alarm that sounds when water is displaced, or other protection equal to or greater than those listed. All drain covers must be anti-entrapment compliant under Virginia Graeme Baker Act. Sacramento County inspects at permit final and on resale.
