California HSC §115922 requires pools built or remodeled after January 1, 2018 to have at least TWO of seven approved safety features: enclosing fence, safety cover, removable mesh, exit alarms on doors, pool alarm, self-latching devices on doors, or other ASTM-approved drowning prevention.
The seven approved safety features under HSC §115922(a): (1) enclosure that isolates the pool from the home; (2) approved safety pool cover per ASTM F1346; (3) exit alarms on the residence doors that provide direct access to the pool (must produce an audible warning when the door is opened); (4) self-closing, self-latching devices on all doors providing direct access to the pool with release mechanism at least 54 inches above the floor; (5) swimming pool alarm that detects unauthorized entry to the water and meets ASTM F2208; (6) other means of protection that afford equal or greater protection, provided the degree of protection afforded is equal to or greater than listed options, and which is independently verified by an approved testing laboratory; (7) removable mesh fencing meeting ASTM F2286 with a self-closing, self-latching gate.
