Flint, MI Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Under Flint Code § 39-26(a), portable garbage and rubbish receptacles must stay at the rear of the premises except on collection day or the evening before; in residential areas they must sit as close as possible to the driveway and within roughly five feet of the curb, between the sidewalk and the curb or road edge. Section 39-22(c) limits how early bins can go out: discarded property, junk, garbage or rubbish cannot be placed at the collection point more than 12 hours before the 7:00 a.m. scheduled pickup. Businesses must also enclose outdoor trash storage areas with a solid wall, fence, hedge or gate at least six feet high under § 39-20.1, with limited downtown and heavy-industrial-zoning exceptions.
