McCracken County, KY Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 111.17, 'Collection Points,' requires that residential and agricultural solid waste be placed along the roadside or curbside fronting the property, and it puts firm time limits on that placement: containers may not go out more than 12 hours before collection, and the generator must pull reusable containers back off the roadside or curbside within 12 hours after collection. Larger generators, residential, agricultural, commercial, institutional, and industrial uses providing bulk containers, must instead keep those bulk containers on private property in areas accessible to collection vehicles, rather than at the curb.

Section 111.37 then sets the physical standard for the ordinary household cart: not less than 10 gallons nor more than 35 gallons in nominal capacity, leak-proof and waterproof construction, a fly-tight lid that stays closed except when waste is being added or removed, handles or another suitable lifting feature, tapered sides for easy emptying, and a hard cap of 75 pounds for the container and its contents combined. Acceptable materials include galvanized metal, or rubber, fiberglass, plastic, or vinyl that will not turn brittle in cold weather, and a container or storage arrangement outside these specs can be treated as waste itself and collected and disposed of under § 111.40.
