Schaumburg requires trash and recycling carts to be placed at the curb on collection day and stored out of public view at all other times. Carts left at the curb beyond the allowed window are a code violation.
Under Schaumburg's refuse ordinance, trash and recycling carts must be placed at the curb no earlier than 5:00 PM the evening before collection and must be removed by midnight on collection day. Carts should be placed on the driveway apron or at the curb edge with the opening facing the street, at least 3 feet from mailboxes, parked vehicles, and other carts. Between collection days, carts must be stored behind the front building line β typically in the garage, side yard, or rear yard β and not visible from the street. Storing carts in the front yard or on the driveway between collections is a code violation. Code Enforcement patrols for compliance and issues notices for carts left at the curb past the deadline.
Written notice for first offense with 24-hour correction deadline. Fines up to $75 for repeated violations of cart storage requirements.
