Arlington Heights, IL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 19-105 of the Arlington Heights Municipal Code requires every person in possession of an occupied premises to provide sufficient reusable refuse containers for each family unit and to deposit all refuse produced or brought onto the premises in those containers; unsanitary, leaking, or defective containers, or those missing covers, must be cleaned, repaired, or replaced at the owner's or occupant's expense as directed by the Village Manager or the Director of Health Services. Section 19-107, Location of Solid Waste Containers, makes it unlawful to place a reusable solid waste container at the curb, in an alley, street, or walkway, except for the Village contractor's own approved carts, and even then only for temporary storage; between collections, reusable refuse containers and approved solid waste carts are permitted only in side or rear yards, and must sit entirely within the lot line.

Section 19-107 also caps any single container and its contents at 50 pounds for residents who receive back-door collection. on collection day itself. the day after collection, so carts cannot sit at the curb for an extended period after pickup. window rather than the broader commercial hours elsewhere in the Village.
