Full Breakdown

Under City Code § 49-25(e), bulky waste (furniture, appliances, mattresses) must be generated at that residence, placed at the curb no more than 3 days before the scheduled bulky collection day, kept 10 feet clear of poles, meters and hydrants, and separated from yard waste. Refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed. Tree limbs go in piles with branches no longer than 8 feet. The first 4 cubic yards per collection are included in service; § 60-49-7(c) sets a per-yard overage fee ($14.59 through October 2025, rising to $16.78 by November 2028). Setting bulky waste out early or leaving it in violation of Article II is an offense under § 49-32.

Violations & Fines

Illegally placed or early-set-out bulky waste draws a written notice giving the owner 3 days to clean it up; missing that deadline brings a citation. Placing bulky waste within 3 feet of a gas meter or directly under power/phone lines is a standalone offense, and repeat violations after conviction count as separate daily offenses.
