Oyster Bay, NY Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 201-4 of the Town Code governs bulky item collection as its own category, separate from garbage and rubbish. Subsection A(1) states that "bulky items will be collected from residential areas and from business areas on regularly scheduled days designated by resolution of the Town Board, during the hours designated by the Commissioner of Sanitation. " That last sentence matters operationally: unlike some municipalities that require residents to call ahead for large-item pickup, Oyster Bay folds bulky items into the same weekly routine as garbage and rubbish.

" As with the other Article II streams, there is no collection of any type on Sundays or on holidays the Town Board designates by resolution, per § 201-4(A)(2). Large vegetation destined for bulky or rubbish pickup, such as tree trunks or stumps, still has to meet the four-foot cutting and bundling standard in § 201-12(A) before it counts as properly prepared. Items that exceed the three-per-day limit or that are not cut/bundled to spec are subject to the same duty-of-owner placement rules in § 201-5, which requires curbside placement in a readily accessible location.
