Sacramento offers a free curbside bulky item pickup program for residents. Each household is eligible for up to two free pickups per year, with up to five items per pickup. Items must be scheduled in advance through the City's 311 system or online portal. Additional pickups beyond the free allotment are available for a fee.
Eligible bulky items include furniture, mattresses, appliances (with doors removed), large electronics, and similar oversized items that do not fit in regular carts. Items containing Freon (refrigerators, air conditioners) must have Freon removed before pickup. Hazardous waste, construction debris, and tires are not eligible for bulky pickup and must be taken to appropriate disposal facilities. Items should be placed at the curb on the scheduled pickup day, not blocking sidewalks or streets. The City also partners with waste haulers to offer periodic neighborhood cleanup events.
Placing bulky items at the curb without scheduling a pickup constitutes illegal dumping and can result in administrative fines. Dumping items on public property or vacant lots is subject to fines up to $1,000 and potential criminal prosecution.
