Concord, NC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 46-37 sets the collection frequency inside Chapter 46's solid waste article. Subsection (a) requires all solid waste and recyclables be placed in the approved garbage and recycle carts the city assigns to each household; putting materials at the curb in personal containers, loose bags, or loose outside a cart is prohibited and those materials are not acceptable and will not be collected, aside from the yard-waste exception covered separately in Section 46-33(a)(16). Subsection (b) sets the actual cadence: residential garbage and yard waste go out once a week, while residential recyclables and bulky waste are collected only once every other week.

Subsection (c) narrows fee-based nonresidential cart customers to the same garbage and recycling pickup as residents, but denies them bulky-item and yard-waste collection. Subsection (d) adds that commercial cardboard and office-paper recycling, available to businesses under the city's fee-based program, is picked up weekly rather than biweekly. The exact day-by-day route schedule for each part of the city is kept on file with the director of solid waste services rather than printed in the code itself. Spillage rules close out the section: a resident must clean up any spill not caused by the collection crew immediately, while spillage caused by the city's own crew must be cleaned up immediately by that crew or its contractor.
