Flagler County, FL Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 27, the Mandatory Solid Waste Collection and Disposal District, states its purpose in Sec. 27-251: to assure that all solid waste generated within Flagler County is collected, removed and disposed of by an authorized collector in a proper, sanitary and efficient manner, to eliminate illegal dumping, and to promote public health, safety and welfare. Sec. 27-254 backs the mandatory structure by treating any residentially improved property capable of occupancy as prima facie evidence that it is producing solid waste, and the county collects a flat fee for collection and disposal at the time a residential building permit is issued.

Sec. 27-257(a) sets the placement rules: garbage and rubbish go in one or more garbage containers at the applicable collection point on the designated collection day, with other solid waste piled at the collection point in up to four cans or bags of no more than 35 gallons and 50 pounds each, or in carts under 96 gallons; bulk trash or junk cannot exceed 3 cubic yards. Sec. 27-257(b) caps yard waste at 4 cubic yards per household, bagged in no more than eight 96-gallon or fourteen 55-gallon bags.

Containers must be removed within 12 hours after collection and cannot be set out more than 12 hours before the scheduled day (Sec. 27-257(f)(5)). A property owner on 10 acres or more, or set back 300 feet or more from the public road, may apply to the director of solid waste for an individual exemption from the mandatory assessment under Sec. 27-256. The district, per Sec. 27-213 and Sec. 27-252, is coextensive with unincorporated Flagler County; Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Beverly Beach, Bunnell and Marineland run their own collection programs unless an interlocal agreement says otherwise.
