Freehold Township, NJ Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 290-8 sets the collection frequency baseline: any premises with a business or industry running on it must arrange daily refuse removal unless it stores waste within a roofed enclosure until pickup, and every other occupied premises must arrange collection at least twice a week. Article II, added by Ord. No. O-91-38 and amended 12-27-2005 by Ord. No. O-05-48, backs that frequency with a mandatory-service rule. Section 290-12A requires every 'responsible solid waste generator' at single-family and multifamily housing to contract with a licensed private hauler for regular collection, defined in § 290-11 as scheduled pickup at least once a week, unless the resident personally transports their own waste directly to the Township's disposal facility.

Multifamily owners carry the added duty of supplying enough containers for the building's nonrecyclable waste. Section 290-12B extends the same contracting duty to every commercial and institutional generator. Residents who self-haul instead of contracting must furnish proof to the Township Committee at least once every 12 months, and § 290-12C lets them satisfy that requirement by including proof of service with their municipal tax payment. The terms 'proof of collection service' and 'responsible solid waste generator' are defined at § 290-11 to cover any property owner, tenant or occupant who generates solid waste at a Township address.
