Royal Oak, MI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 633-4A places the duty to run Royal Oak's trash system on the City Manager or an authorized representative, who must provide for collection and disposal of all refuse citywide, publish a collection schedule at least once in a newspaper circulating in the City, and supply the labor and equipment to carry it out. The Manager may revise the schedule whenever a change seems advisable, but any revision must be published the same way the original schedule was, so residents always have newspaper notice of the current pickup day for their street.

Section 633-4B identifies what falls outside the standard, no-extra-charge pickup: chipper brush in excess of one inch but less than five inches in diameter is collected only upon payment of a specific charge the City Commission sets by resolution, and the Manager may add other categories to that paid list over time as needed. That schedule-setting duty connects to § 633-5A, which requires residents to place their containers at the curb on whatever day the published schedule assigns to their address, and to § 633-3, which gives the City Manager authority to direct how construction debris is removed once a job site is finished.

Enforcement of the whole chapter, including making sure collection happens on the published schedule, falls to the Police Department, City Inspectors, Code Enforcement Officers and Aides, the Fire Chief and the Public Works Superintendent under § 633-11.
