Waukesha, WI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Municipal Code Section 13.055(3) requires the Department of Public Works to collect Solid Waste from every Eligible Property once each week on a scheduled collection day falling Monday through Friday; which day applies depends on the defined collection area the Department assigns. Recyclables are collected on a periodic basis the Department sets, but always on the same day as that address's Solid Waste pickup, not a separate day.

Only Eligible Properties receive City collection at all: under subsection (1)(f), a parcel qualifies if it is used exclusively for residential purposes (a home business using no more than 5% of a unit's floor space does not disqualify it), holds no more than 4 dwelling units (or, for a rooming house, no more than 4 bedrooms), fronts a public street or alley so trucks need not enter a private driveway, carries no covenant barring City service, and, where a shared driveway serves multiple buildings, does not exceed 8 total dwelling units on that driveway. Properties in the Central Business District keep their eligibility for residential units even if the building also has commercial space.

Section 13.055 was amended by Ord. 2024-3 on February 6, 2024, and again by Ord. 2026-2 on April 21, 2026. The Board of Public Works is authorized under subsection (9) to publish the detailed Residential Solid Waste and Recycling Regulations that implement the schedule and eligibility rules.
