Corpus Christi, TX Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Sec. 21-90 requires every dumpster placed by a private waste disposal company within the city to be registered with the director of solid waste services, with narrow exceptions in subsection (f). Registration requires the hauler's name and address, waste hauler permit number, where the dumpster is stored when not in use, and manufacturer, model, gross and tare weight, and cubic capacity for each dumpster, plus a description of the service the applicant intends to provide and whether service extends outside city limits. The registration fee is one dollar per dumpster, and the director issues one or more stickers per registered dumpster that must be displayed at a location the director specifies.

Absent that current sticker, placing any dumpster in the city is itself an offense under subsection (f). Companion Sec. 21-92 spells out where dumpsters may actually go: they may never sit on any city or state right-of-way, only on the customer's private property, and haulers must access them via a driveway rather than crossing over a curb except at an authorized driveway approach. If material is illegally dumped next to a dumpster, the customer contracting for that dumpster is responsible for removing it, and if a dumpster is overflowing, the hauler must arrange for a larger one.

Each dumpster the hauler provides must be leakproof, kept in good repair, kept clean, painted, free of graffiti, and display its registration sticker. Sec. 21-90(g) gives a narrow exception for active construction, demolition, remodeling, or repair sites without enough room for a dumpster or with a driveway that can't bear a full dumpster's weight: the generator may instead obtain a dumpster parking permit from the city's traffic engineer under Sec. 53-195 to place it in the street right-of-way.
