Yonkers, NY Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Yonkers City Code § 91-19(C) lets the Commissioner of Public Works service multiple dwellings by roll-off dumpster rather than curbside cans, billed under the fee schedule in § 91-24. That schedule sets monthly container rental at $125 for a twenty-cubic-yard dumpster, $150 for thirty cubic yards, and $200 for forty cubic yards, with roll-off pickup itself billed at $100 per ton once a property needs more than two collections a week. Section 91-25 sends every dollar collected to the Department of Public Works to cover the wages of staff running the roll-off service, and § 91-26 makes prepaid service charges nonrefundable except for a duplicate payment or a cancellation the City itself initiates.

Businesses, industrial operations and other for-profit commercial activity are handled differently: § 91-20 requires the owner or lessee to remove and dispose of garbage entirely at their own expense through a private garbage collector licensed under Chapter 91, Article I, and to post a sign at the main entrance naming the hauler, its phone number, and the pickup days and times; the Department of Public Works must also be notified of that information. Two or more small commercial establishments generating under 20 gallons of garbage in seven days may share a single collection point and hauler if the Department is notified of the arrangement within 30 days.

An owner can ask the Mayor for a waiver from the private-hauler requirement by showing the waste is already being disposed of properly, though the Mayor can revoke that waiver at any time the Department finds otherwise.
