Augusta-Richmond County, GA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Augusta's holiday trash rule comes from the Holiday Schedule page on the augustaga.gov website, not from a holiday calendar in the Code. The page states that the Solid Waste Facility does not observe all City or Federal Holidays and lists the ones it does observe: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11, 2026), Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24, 2026) and New Year's Eve (Thursday, December 31, 2026) are not on that list, so the page prints no delay for them.

The delay is the same for every listed holiday. When the holiday falls on a week day and your service day lands on or after it during that work week, collection is delayed one day. Monday service moves to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, and Friday service to Saturday, for that week only. Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, 2026, so the rule reaches Thursday and Friday service that week. Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, 2026, and New Year's Day is Friday, January 1, 2027, so on each, Friday service falls on the holiday and the printed Friday-to-Saturday example applies. The page prints no calendar dates or years, so it works as a standing rule. The page also offers a reminder sign-up and an app.

Augusta Environmental Services collects extra holiday garbage for one collection cycle, starting the day after the holiday. Bag it in plastic and set it next to the garbage cart. The crew can run the garbage truck or the bulk waste truck, so extra bags are not guaranteed on the first pass. The same bagged-waste allowance runs during the week prior to, the week of and the week after the Masters Golf Tournament.

The Augusta Landfill at 4330 Deans Bridge Road keeps its own closures: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

In Title 4, Chapter 2, Article 3 (Garbage Collection in Urban Services District), Sec. 4-2-39(a) collects business district garbage each night "except holidays," and Sec. 4-2-39(b) sets residential garbage days "as specified by the sanitation department for the different areas." No holiday names, make-up day or dates appear there, and the cross-reference in (b) to Sec. 4-2-41 leads to a section on flattening cardboard boxes, not a schedule. The Holiday Schedule page does not name a service district.
