Section 265-3A(2) assigns each residence a collection date, either individually or by Common Council schedule, that repeats week to week except during a week containing one of six recognized holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The rule is a straightforward one-day slide: collection that would normally fall on the holiday itself moves to the next regular collection day, and the code gives the example of a Monday holiday pushing Monday's route to Tuesday. Because Burlington runs collection on a set weekly route rather than a floating calendar, a mid-week holiday can carry the delay through the rest of that week's stops, so residents on a Thursday or Friday route in a holiday week should expect their pickup a day later than usual too.
