Burlington, WI Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 315-49 applies to every driveway installed, altered, changed, replaced, or extended after the chapter's effective date. Subsection B limits vehicular ingress and egress openings in all zoning districts except the manufacturing districts to no more than 30 feet at the street line and 35 feet at the roadway; in manufacturing districts the street-line cap stays at 30 feet but the roadway width is set instead by the City Engineer, and any of these limits can be revised for a particular use on the City Engineer's recommendation and Plan Commission approval.

Subsection A requires islands of at least six feet between separate driveway openings and three feet at all lot lines, landscaped in the space between the lot line and the adjacent driveway. Subsection C bars vehicular entrances and exits to drive-in theaters, banks, restaurants, motels, funeral homes, and vehicle sales, service, washing, repair, or garage uses within 200 feet of a pedestrian entrance to a school, college, church, hospital, park, playground, library, public emergency shelter, or other public assembly place. Paving ties in under § 315-48E: open off-street parking and loading spaces must be surfaced in asphalt or concrete in every zoning district except the A-1, Rs-1, Rs-2, Rs-3, Rd-1, and Rd-2 residential districts, and an owner found out of compliance gets four months from the Zoning Administrator's notice to correct it before it becomes an unlawful nonconforming use.
