Burlington, WI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 315-48 sets Burlington's citywide off-street parking requirements, applying in every zoning district except the B-2 Central Business District and the I-1 Institutional District, whenever a use or building is erected, enlarged, extended, structurally altered or increased. Subsection D covers minimum required parking lot setbacks, landscaping, and plans. D(3) already requires that any off-street parking area or driveway serving more than five vehicles be set back at least 10 feet from a side or rear lot line abutting a residential district, screened by a solid wall, solid fence, or a landscaped buffer at least five feet deep and six feet tall.

D(4) adds a distinct, heavier-duty rule aimed specifically at trucks: no parking of a Class 7 truck, defined by the code as 26,001 to 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, or anything heavier, is allowed within 150 feet of any residential zoning district. Unlike the B-1 District's separate 24-hour truck and trailer parking and screening rule in § 315-26M, this 150-foot distance standard is tied to the truck's weight class and to proximity to residential zoning generally, not to a time limit or a single commercial district. Compliance is reviewed by the Zoning Administrator and City Plan Commission whenever a parking area is built, expanded, or altered under the chapter.
