Columbia, MO Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Columbia's code hands the holiday calendar to the utilities director. Section 22-159(c) sets residential refuse pickup once weekly on a schedule the director establishes, and says that when a holiday is observed on the normal day of collection, the collection will be made the following day or as approved and publicly announced by the director. Section 22-156 defines the director as the director of utilities or the director's designee, and § 22-159.1(a) repeats the same holiday sentence for weekly recycling pickup. The City's Holiday Recycling and Trash Collection page is that public announcement, and it marks its dates "subject to change".

For Thanksgiving Day 2026 the page prints "No RCC Thursday, Nov. 26" and "Thursday – Friday collection provided Friday – Saturday". RCC is the page's abbreviation for Residential Curbside Collection. The separate Observed City Holiday Schedule page, which prints no year, adds an asterisked note: "Even though City offices are closed the Friday after Thanksgiving, solid waste collection will resume." Christmas Day (Friday, Dec. 25, 2026) and New Year's Day (Friday, Jan. 1, 2027) each get "No RCC" on the Friday, with "Friday collection provided Saturday". Christmas Eve (Thursday, Dec. 24) and New Year's Eve (Thursday, Dec. 31) have no entry on the dated page and are not on the City's observed holiday list, which says "Holidays not listed are NOT observed by the City."

The code sentence covers only the route whose normal day is the holiday. The slide for the later routes that week comes from the City's pages, and the Observed City Holiday Schedule page states it as a standing rule: "Trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day after the holiday for the remainder of that week."

The rest of the dated calendar: Veterans Day 2026 (Wednesday, Nov. 11) has no RCC, and Wednesday – Friday collection is provided Thursday – Saturday. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 18, 2027) and Memorial Day (Monday, May 31, 2027) have no RCC, and Monday – Friday collection is provided Tuesday – Saturday. Juneteenth Day 2027 and Independence Day 2027 leave RCC routes unaffected. For minor holidays, collection follows its normal schedule. The sanitary landfill is closed on observed City holidays.

The dated page speaks only of Residential Curbside Collection. It prints no holiday rule for yard waste or centralized-container apartment customers, and it names no service area.
