Full Breakdown

City Code of Ordinances § 22-159(a) requires every single-family home, duplex, and apartment building with four or fewer units in Columbia to use curbside cart collection provided by the city's utilities department. Section 22-159(b) shifts larger apartment or grouped residential structures, more than four living units, onto a centralized container system, with refuse bagged and securely closed before it goes into the shared container. The director can grant exceptions to either rule for good cause. Pickup for both service types runs weekly under § 22-159(c). This is a Boone County city ordinance; it governs collection inside Columbia's city limits, not county service.

Violations & Fines

Using the wrong service type, or bypassing the curbside cart requirement without a director-approved exception, exposes the account holder to enforcement under the refuse collection article and possible billing consequences.
