Lower Merion, PA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Section 82-13.1.F lists exactly seven holidays on which Lower Merion Township suspends its regular municipal waste collection: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The Code does not automatically slide every affected route to the next day; instead it puts the Director of the Public Works Department in charge of approving whatever changes are made to the regular collection schedule because of a holiday suspension, so the exact make-up day for a given week depends on the route and the holiday involved.

This holiday list sits inside the same section that sets the Township's regular weekly schedule, § 82-13.1.E, which otherwise runs nonrecycled waste and leaf waste once a week and recyclables and newspaper every two weeks starting at 7:00 a.m. Because the holiday section was amended in 1992 by Ordinance No. 3290 and again in 2009 by Ordinance No. 3893, residents relying on an older printed schedule should confirm the current list and the Director's published make-up dates rather than assume the holidays or the shift pattern have stayed the same.

The same general placement and set-out rules under § 82-13.1.D and G still apply on a make-up collection day: containers must sit at curbside or within five feet of the cartway and stay out of street view once collection is complete.
