Passaic, NJ Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

§ 230-4A puts the Business Administrator, working with the Municipal Recycling Coordinator, in charge of setting collection times, routes and methods for recyclables covered by §§ 230-1 and 230-3, and requires the city to notify all sectors "at least two weeks in advance prior to any change in the collection schedule," using direct mail, posted notices or newspaper advertising. Two specific streams are tied expressly to the holiday calendar: white goods, defined in § 230-2, go out on either Thursday or Friday depending on the resident's area, with those pickup days excluding holidays (§ 230-4B); and tires are collected curbside Mondays and Fridays, also excluding holidays, with the resident or commercial owner required to call the Recycling Office of Public Works to arrange pickup (§ 230-4C).

The chapter does not specify that a missed holiday date automatically rolls to the next business day, instead, the Recycling Coordinator publishes the applicable schedule so residents know their designated day, and any schedule change more broadly triggers the two-week advance-notice requirement in § 230-4A. the collection morning regardless of the holiday calendar, since Chapter 230 does not carve out a separate holiday rule for that stream.
