Wicomico County, MD Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The County's Solid Waste Division publishes a 2026 Holiday Schedule for the Newland Park Landfill at 6948 Brick Kiln Road, Salisbury. It is signed by Adam Corry, Acting Director of Public Works, and it is the document that sets the dates for unincorporated Wicomico County. It sits on top of Wicomico County Code § 156-14(G)(1), which closes all County solid waste facilities on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day unless otherwise posted.

Seven dates in 2026 print as EVERYTHING CLOSED: New Year's Day (Thursday, January 1), Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), Independence Day (Saturday, July 4), Labor Day (Monday, September 7), Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26), Christmas Eve Day (Thursday, December 24) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25). Christmas Eve is a closure on the schedule even though § 156-14(G)(1) does not name it.

The other listed dates are partial days. On each one the office is CLOSED, the brush pile is OPEN 7AM-6PM, the Newland convenience center is OPEN 6AM-6PM, and the landfill and scales are OPEN 7AM-4PM. The external convenience centers split into two groups. They are OPEN 8AM-5PM on Friday, January 2, Good Friday (April 3), Friday, July 3 and Saturday, December 26. They are CLOSED on Martin Luther King Jr Day (January 19), President's Day (February 16), Juneteenth (June 19), Veteran's Day Observed (Wednesday, November 11) and Native American Heritage Day (Friday, November 27).

Under § 156-14(G)(2), convenience and recycling centers can close on any County-declared holiday approved by the County Council, and can stay open when the Department of Public Works posts that decision. Under § 156-15, the Director of Public Works can change hours for weather, safety or staffing after prompt notice to the Council.

The schedule printed here covers 2026 only. It lists no 2027 dates, so the code clause is the only closure rule on file for New Year's Day 2027. Neither the code chapter nor the schedule addresses curbside pickup. Ask your own hauler about holiday pickup, and call the Solid Waste Division at 410-548-4935 for facility questions.
