Unincorporated Riverside County residents receive curbside trash, recycling, and organics collection once per week from a county-franchised hauler under Ordinance 773. Carts must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on collection day or no earlier than 5 p.m. the previous evening, and carts must be removed from the curb by 10 p.m. the same day.
Riverside County is divided into franchise zones served by Burrtec, Waste Management, CR&R, and other licensed haulers. Every occupied residence is required to subscribe and pay for service regardless of volume generated. Standard service includes a 96-gallon black trash cart, a 96-gallon blue recycling cart, and a 96-gallon green organics cart required under SB 1383 since 2022. Holiday delays (New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) typically push collection one day later for the remainder of the week. Bulky-item pickup is offered free two or three times per year through the hauler by scheduled appointment. Hazardous waste, electronics, paint, batteries, and sharps are excluded from curbside and must be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste event or permanent drop-off site. Cart contamination with prohibited items can trigger tagging, lost service, and contamination fees of 30 dollars or more per incident under SB 1383 compliance rules enforced by the Department of Waste Resources.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Riverside County code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
