Craven County, NC Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 32-129 of the Craven County Code, part of Chapter 32's Collection and Disposal division, gives residences and hand commercial establishments six ways to put solid waste out for pickup. The simplest is a solid waste collection bag with one purchased sticker attached, either left for franchisee pickup or hauled to a county-staffed convenience center. Residents who use a cart instead must match the cart size to a weight limit and sticker count: a 33-gallon cart holds up to 50 pounds with one sticker, a 64-gallon cart holds up to 100 pounds with two stickers, and a 90-gallon cart holds up to 150 pounds with three stickers.

Anyone who prefers not to buy stickers per bag can instead contract directly with the franchisee serving their area under § 32-129(6). Stickers themselves are sold at a price the Board of Commissioners sets under § 32-130, and franchisees must render continuous service on a schedule the solid waste director approves, with a minimum of one pickup a week per customer under § 32-105(2). Staffed convenience centers accept bagged or carted waste with the correct stickers attached under § 32-131, and every vehicle a franchisee uses must be waterproofed, tarp-covered against windblown trash, and in good working order, verified in the director's annual inspection due each July 1 under § 32-105(7)-(8).
