Haltom City provides weekly trash and biweekly recycling through a contracted hauler. Carts must be at the curb by 7 AM on the scheduled day and stored out of view between pickups.
Haltom City contracts solid waste and recycling collection for single-family and duplex residences through a franchise agreement with a private hauler. Service is included on the monthly water utility bill and is not optional for eligible residential customers. Each eligible residence receives one 95-gallon gray cart for household trash, one 65-gallon blue cart for recyclables, and curbside yard waste service using paper bags or bundled limbs. Trash is collected once per week on a day assigned by street or subdivision, and recycling is collected on the same day every other week. Carts must be placed at the curb with wheels toward the house, the lid closed, and at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides from mailboxes, vehicles, fences, and other carts to allow the automated arm to pick them up. Carts must be out by 7 AM on the scheduled collection day, and the city prefers placement the night before. Household trash must fit inside the cart with the lid fully closed; extra bags set beside the cart will not be collected and may be considered illegal dumping. Hazardous household waste such as paint, motor oil, solvents, pesticides, batteries, and fluorescent tubes is prohibited from the cart and must be dropped off at Tarrant County's Environmental Collection Center in Fort Worth. Medical sharps must be in rigid puncture-resistant containers. Electronics, tires, and appliances require separate bulk arrangements. Holiday schedules shift collection by one day for the week following major holidays; residents should confirm the current schedule with the Public Works Department at (817) 222-7700 or on the city website. Multi-family complexes of 5 or more units contract directly with private haulers.
