Richland, WA Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

RMC § 15.03.050(A) sets Richland's basic residential collection schedule: every account gets one gray container for household waste and one green container for yard waste, with additional containers available on request. All containers must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the customer's assigned collection day, and the city picks up weekly, except that recycling containers, where requested, are collected every other week instead. The city can suspend regular collection when street conditions make it unsafe to reach containers, and it can separately suspend yard waste pickup during extended freezing periods.

Because timing is part of the same standard enforced under RMC § 15.03.030(D) for curbside placement, a container that is not at the curb and accessible by 6:00 a.m. can be missed, and RMC § 15.03.060(E) then allows the city to charge a call-back fee to send crews back for a container that was obstructed, not curbside in time, packed so it would not empty, or holding additional refuse. A resident can also buy extra curbside garbage capacity on the same schedule: RMC § 15.03.050(C) lets a customer set out extra bags up to 32 gallons and 40 pounds, or boxes up to 40 pounds, on the normal collection day for an additional charge under RMC § 15.03.060(B).
