Dearborn provides biweekly single-stream curbside recycling using city-issued carts, accepting paper, cardboard, metal, glass, and plastics #1 and #2.
The Dearborn recycling program uses single-stream collection, meaning all accepted materials may be placed loose in the same blue recycling cart. Collection runs every other week on the same day as trash pickup. Accepted items include clean paper, flattened cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, and rigid plastic containers marked #1 (PET) and #2 (HDPE). Plastic bags, film, styrofoam, food-soiled paper, needles, and tanglers like cords or hoses are not accepted and contaminate loads. Residents may drop off additional or non-curbside recyclables such as electronics and scrap metal at the Dearborn Recycling Center during posted hours. Contaminated carts may be tagged and skipped.
