Livonia offers weekly single-stream curbside recycling collected the same day as trash. Accepted materials include paper, cardboard, metals, and plastics 1-7; glass is accepted with restrictions.
Single-stream recycling is provided weekly to all single-family and small multi-family residences using a 96-gallon recycle cart. Accepted materials include newspaper, mixed paper, flattened cardboard, boxboard, steel and aluminum food cans, empty aerosol cans, and plastic containers marked 1 through 7 with caps on. Glass bottles and jars are accepted in the cart per the current contract. Materials must be clean and dry; pizza boxes heavily soiled with grease, food-contaminated containers, plastic bags, and shredded paper are not accepted curbside. Plastic bags and film should be returned to grocery-store drop-offs. Placing prohibited items in the cart can cause the entire load to be rejected and tipped as trash, which increases processing costs to the city. The recycle cart goes out by 7:00 AM on the regular collection day. Livonia also runs a DPW yard at 12973 Farmington Road where residents can drop off cardboard, electronics during event days, and yard waste in the appropriate season.
