Livonia provides weekly curbside collection of trash, recycling, and yard waste on assigned routes. Carts must be out by 7:00 AM on service day and removed from the curb the same evening.
The Livonia Department of Public Works contracts for weekly automated curbside collection of municipal solid waste, single-stream recycling, and seasonal yard waste. Each residence receives a 96-gallon trash cart and a 96-gallon recycle cart. Carts must be placed at the curb with wheels toward the house and at least three feet of clearance on all sides by 7:00 AM on the scheduled collection day; they cannot be placed out earlier than 4:00 PM the evening before. Empty carts must be pulled back from the right-of-way by 7:00 AM the day after collection. Holiday weeks shift routes one day forward (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Overfilled carts with lids that will not close, or trash placed in bags outside the cart on a non-bulk day, will be skipped. Hazardous waste, tires, batteries, and electronics are not collected curbside and must be taken to the Wayne County hazardous-waste drop-off. Repeat violations of the set-out timing result in a written warning followed by a municipal civil infraction ticket.
