Kenton County, KY Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Kenton County Code of Ordinances Section 50.045, titled Resource Recovery, states that except as provided by statute, recycling, source separation, and resource recovery or reclamation of materials for energy or other processes shall not be restricted by any person, dwelling unit, agricultural, commercial, institutional, or industrial use in the county, provided the storage and collection of the recyclable material conforms to the requirements of the solid waste chapter. That wording is permissive rather than a mandate: it clears the way for residents, haulers, and businesses to recycle without extra county-imposed hurdles, but it does not itself require the county to operate curbside recycling or require any household to participate. Anyone recycling still has to meet the chapter's general storage rules, keeping bins sanitary and pest-free under Section 50.016 and placing them within the roadside curb-time limits in Section 50.032, since the exemption from restriction only covers the recycling activity itself, not the underlying storage and placement standards.
