Dothan, AL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Sec. 82-20(a) gives the public works director authority to collect yard trash piles, cuttings piles, and bulky refuse from each residential establishment not more than once a week, curbside only, on a published schedule. Subsection (c) raises the frequency specifically for leaf season, requiring collection of yard trash piles at least twice per month for every residential establishment, and more often if the department can manage it. The material itself has to be prepared correctly: subsection (d) requires pine straw, leaves, grass clippings, and garden refuse to be piled free of limbs, rocks, boards, and other hard or bulky material that could damage mechanical pickup equipment.

Subsection (e) separately governs woody debris, requiring brush, limbs, and shrubbery cuttings to be stored in neat piles apart from the grass and leaf piles, with each branch or limb cut to no more than five feet in length and no more than eight inches in diameter. Anything larger, such as a tree trunk or a limb over eight inches thick, falls outside this routine yard-trash pickup and becomes the owner's or producer's responsibility to remove under Sec. 82-20(h)(7).
